We've had it for over a year, and has been extremely dependable. It recently had its oil changed, an alignment, and has new tire sensors. Tires themselves are still like new. Interior is in great condition, third row of seats can be laid down for extra trunk space. Only flaws with the vehicle are some paint scratches that may be buffed out, and a small patch of fading paint.

2012 mazda mazda2 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Zoom-zooming into its second year. introductionthe mazda2 is a five-seat hatchback, front-wheel-drive subcompact, taking on the toyota yaris, nissan versa, honda fit, ford fiesta, chevrolet sonic, fiat 500, hyundai accent and kia soul. That's a wonderful field of cars for these times (subcompact is the fastest growing automotive segment in the world), and the mazda2 has qualities that, to many, make it the most desirable of this bunch. the mazda2 was completely redesigned for 2011, so there are no changes for 2012. While new to north america, this is actually the second generation of the mazda2. It makes 100 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 98 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. We had no trouble, in fact we had a blast, running in the fast lane with the 75-mph flow of los angeles freeway traffic. In 310 miles of combined city and highway driving, we averaged 34. 8 miles per gallon, at the top end of the epa estimate of 29 city/35 highway mpg for the 2012 mazda2. in pursuit of good gas mileage, acceleration and responsive handling, mazda focused on keeping the car light, by using high-strength steel with more welds (and less steel overall), and weld-bonded adhesives in the body. Engineers looked for dozens of places to save a few pounds, for example the wiring harness, door locks and latches, radiator, automatic transmission shifter, pedals, stereo speakers and more. It's this painstaking attention to mechanical detail that makes mazda an exceptional car company. the final result is 2306 pounds, even less than the two-seat mazda mx5 sports car. It's the lightest subcompact, even lighter than the smaller fiat 500, and way lighter than the ford fiesta, although the toyota yaris is a close second. The yaris has 6 more horsepower, but is not nearly as much fun to drive. the seats are comfortable and supportive, and we liked the thick, sporty steering wheel. Although rated as a five-seater, we wouldn't subject a fifth person to the back seat for long, but that's no different than any other car in this class. It zoom-zooms to scale. The little engine is gutsy, with a cocky tone at upper revs. Shifting the manual 5-speed is slick and easy. Responsive brakes and steering. Smooth ride and flat cornering. Bluetooth wireless for hands-free cellphone operation 95) is available, also a rear bumper guard 80), cargo net 40), center console with armrest 170). It also has mazda's first brake priority system that automatically puts the brakes on whenever the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed simultaneously. The mazda2 gets europe's highest crash rating of five stars. walkaroundthe styling is fresh, and it's eye-catching in a cute sort of way. The grille isn't loved by everyone, but it is distinctive, which isn't easy to do considering there's no grille work. The hood, fenders, headlamps, bumper, air intakes and 15-inch wheels are all well done, adding character. the halogen headlamp units flow from the gentle bulge of the front fenders. The three-spoke steering wheel works well, with a meaty rim that makes the mazda2 feel like a sports car, and a padded hub. We think it might look better without all that aluminumy plastic trim on the wide spokes, but no big deal. It tilts for adjustment, and the driver's seat raises and lowers, so almost anyone can find a good place behind the wheel. what we call aluminumy plastic mazda calls silver garnish, and there's more of it on the vents, armrests, shift knob and gate, where it looks good in sparing doses. the shifter, manual or automatic, rises from just below the instrument panel where the center console would be if there was one. There's a console with storage tray and cupholders that goes between the seats, with an optional leather padded armrest that we found nice to have. It's no stretch at all to shift gears. The 5-speed stick is easy to reach and fun to use. the dashboard flows in a continuous line and curves away from occupants, making the cabin feel wide. Certainly there's lots of elbow room. Mazda engineers worked carefully on the position and cross-sectional shape of the a-pillars, which along with a low beltline enable clear forward visibility and also help the car feel roomy. the cluster of three gauges in front of the driver's eyes is shaded by an eave, with the speedo in center, smaller tach on the left, and the rest in one gauge on the right. In the center of dashboard there's a large round binnacle with sound system information, a cd slot, and three dials for the climate control. Cargo capacity is 13. 3 cubic feet behind the 60/40 split folding second seat, and 27. 8 cubic feet with the second seat folded flat. Hatchbacks with fold-flat rear seats are the best value out there, to carry a lot without spending a lot. driving impressionthe 1. 5-liter engine in the mazda2 is one of the smallest gasoline engines on the u. Market, but its performance is exciting, with a 5-speed manual gearbox. We didn't get to drive the 4-speed automatic, but we have doubts, partly because it's only a 4-speed and partly because it's hard to imagine it making the mazda2 any better to drive than the 5-speed. It sounds good above 4000, and zings responsively all the way up to 6300 redline. The drive-by-wire throttle responds quickly. We read one review that called the engine gutless, but we say nonsense. Although if the mazda2 had the fiesta's 119 horsepower from a related 1. 6-liter engine, it'd be way hot. it's really smooth at 75 or 80 mph. More mazda attention to mechanical detail. Vented discs in front, drums in the rear, with abs, brake force distribution and brake assist. the suspension is fairly conventional, with macpherson struts in front and a trailing-arm torsion beam in back. We drove the mazda2 over twisty two-lanes on the california coast, and found that it cornered flat and sucked up most bumps. The electric power steering reacts quickly. summarythe mazda 2 is a strong contender in the competitive subcompact segment. Its soft wedge shape is eye-catching, a cute, sporty and practical hatchback. It's way fun to drive with the manual transmission, while getting more than 30 mpg. The cx-9 is a crossover, meaning a vehicle with suv-type ride height and carrying capacity, but with significantly better fuel economy, ride quality, and handling than a truck-based suv. the cx-9 can carry seven six-foot people, thanks to a third-row seat designed with adults in mind. The surroundings are handsome. And while it was easy for a 5-foot, 6-inch woman to climb into the cx-9, the seating position is high enough that the driver looks straight over at drivers of traditional suvs. The cx-9 is available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, providing a nice option for those who worry about snowy travel in hilly areas. Properly equipped, it can tow 3500 pounds. what sets the cx-9 apart are its sporty looks, and the road manners to back them up. The cx-9 responds quickly to the driver's requests, feeling surprisingly enthusiastic about travel on a serpentine two-lane. It now boasts 273 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque. This refined, 24-valve v6 was designed by ford and is built in ohio before being shipped to japan where the cx-9 is assembled. It works with an impressive six-speed, japanese-made automatic transmission, which can be shifted manually if the driver is interested in some frisky motoring. safety is enhanced by electronic stability control, which helps the driver maintain control on slippery surfaces, roll stability control, and curtain airbags, which provide head protection in a side-impact crash. The cx-9 has received five-star ratings from the u. Air curtains are low-pressure airbags that come down from the ceiling to cover the side windows in all three rows. The idea is to provide head protection in a side-impact crash. Studies and crash tests have shown such head protection can significantly improve the chance of surviving side-impact crashes, which are particularly deadly because there is so little metal to protect the occupants of the vehicle being struck. The air bags mounted in the front seats are designed to provide chest protection in a side-impact crash. Optional all-wheel drive adds a measure of driving safety in slippery conditions. walkaroundmazda has presented the cx-9 as a substitute for either a conventional sport utility vehicle or a minivan. And mazda has made sure it looks like neither. the cx-9 is not a longer version of the five-seat cx-7. The mechanical underpinnings are different and the structures of the two vehicles are not related. The cx-9 shares some components with the five-passenger ford edge, although the mazda is longer, by 2 inches of wheelbase and 14 inches overall. In fact, the cx-9 is the largest mazda ever. Its overall length of almost 200 inches makes it nearly a foot longer than the 2008 toyota highlander or the 2009 nissan murano. What is perhaps most surprising about the cx-9 is that it doesn't look big from the outside. the cx-9's nose features a huge mazda insignia and prominent, flared fenders that lead a character line heading back and slightly upward just below the windows. The roof arches, crests and then slides back and down. One surprise is a pronounced bulge in the tailgate, like an old-fashioned bustle. It is a neat trick that adds a little extra storage capacity. safety researchers say the strength of the vehicle's body is also crucial in providing protection in a side-impact crash. Mazda took this into consideration, providing b-pillars that are extra wide and strong. (the b-pillar is the second roof pillar back from the windshield, which uses the a-pillar.). interiorclimbing into the mazda cx-9 reveals some surprises. The first is that it is so easy to climb into the front seats. The second is that the seating position is as high as in most suvs, providing the driver with a good look down the road. The third surprise is the amount of room inside. carrying seven people means two up front, three in the second row and two in the third row. we found a 6-foot, 4-inch driver could be comfortable in the driver's seat, then move back to the second row and still find enough legroom; that's with the adjustable second-row seat in the middle position. The second row is split 60/40, and either side moves fore and aft almost five inches. That allows a nice amount of flexibility in carrying people and cargo of different sizes. then, without moving the second-row seat, we climbed into the third row and found adequate head and legroom for that same 6-foot, 4-inch driver there, too. To get to the third row, grab the handle built into the top of the second-row seat and pull. That releases the seat and slides it forward. The opening is smallish, in part because the wheel arch intrudes. The look is upscale, and nothing about it says boring family transportation. up front, all the basic driving controls are simple and easy to use. a small storage bin between the front seats and relatively thin storage compartments on the front doors provide some cubby storage. mazda says there is 17. 2 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row upright. There's not much more than the trunk of a mid-size sedan, and to use it all would require piling luggage up to the roof, blocking the rearward view. Nevertheless 17. 2 cubic feet gives the cx-9 a significant advantage over the toyota highlander, which has 10. 3 cubic feet behind its third row and 2. 5 inches less legroom in the third row. To carry more stuff and fewer people, the mazda's third row (a 50/50 split) can be lowered by pulling a strap. Gravity does the work. With both sides down the result is 48. 4 cubic feet of space. Getting the seat back up requires pulling the same strap, which we found easy to do. the second row can also be folded down easily. However, it doesn't create a completely flat cargo area. There is a slight uphill slant. the tailgate when open does not have a 6-foot, 4-inch clearance, we discovered, and there is nothing like a good rap on the forehead to brighten the day. driving impressionmazda's place within the ford motor company family is to provide the sporty vehicles, those with the zoom-zoom, as mazda likes to say. That's easy to do with a two-seater like the mx-5 roadster, but it becomes a challenge with a seven-passenger vehicle that weighs over 4,500 pounds in its all-wheel-drive version.
